George B. Wineland Jr.

G. B. Wineland and Son was established in 1905. The business was purchased at that time from A. 0. Deford by John L. Wineland.

Located at the corner of Penn and Railroad Streets, all types and grades of bituminous and anthracite coal were on hand for instant service. In expanding the enterprise building supplies and paint, as well as modern coal furnaces were soon added.

George B. Wineland, Jr. entered the business with his father, John L. Wineland, in 1905, an association that continued until his father's death in 1917 the result of an accident while unloading a rail car. Taking over independently, he continued until joined by his son, George H., in 1952. The partnership was then formed with the current name. In the 1940’s, the construction portion of the business was dramatically expanded.

Many improvements over the years marked the success of the business. Modern equipment for handling and transporting coal, the backbone of the business, plus enlarged office and warehouse facilities, aided the business in serving the public.

In 1968, the coal supply portion of the business was dropped, in order to focus exclusively on the construction, remodeling, siding, doors and windows and installation.

George III took over management of the company from his father in 1978.  He purchased the business outright in 1997 and has remained as the owner and operator of the business through the present day.
